Walkers are spoilt for choice with forest trails, fells and valley landscapes to explore that are just a short drive away as well as circular walks that begin right from the pub doorstep

Local Walk – Derby Arms Circular Walk

This 12 mile waymarked walk starts and ends at the pub, providing a variety of terrains including country lanes, stony tracks, open fields, farm and moorland. Download a PDF of the walking route

Parlick Fell And Paddy’s Pole

There are various circular walks ranging from 5-8 miles that incorporate Parlick Fell, Paddy’s Pole and Fair Snape Fell. It is steep and boggy at points but the reward is the views from the summits that stretch across the coastal plain of Lancashire, the central summits of the Pennines and the southern Lakeland Fells across Morecambe Bay. A very popular spot with paragliders as well as hikers. A 5 mile drive from the Derby Arms.

The Tolkien Trail

The 5.5 mile Tolkien Trail explores the pretty Ribble landscape that may have inspired J.R.R Tolkien, starting and finishing at the Shireburn Arms in Hurst Green. It incorporates the impressive Stonyhurst College where Tolkien worked on The Lord of the Rings during WWII, and passes through varied landscapes including woodland, rivers and grassy paths. A 15 minute drive from the Derby Arms.

Longridge Fell

A walk up to the top of Longridge Fell will take less than 2 hours in total with moderate effort. Dominating the local area its flanks are covered in forest and from the top it is possible to see the Welsh Mountains, the Isle of Man, Ingleborough and the Loud Valley. A 7 mile drive from The Derby Arms.
