Beacon Fell Country Park

This 180 acre country park consists of woodland, moorland and farmland. The Beacon Fell summit is 266 metres above sea level and offers spectacular views of the Forest of Bowland and Morecambe Bay. Wildlife including rabbits, roe deer, stoats and weasels can be seen running across the road or clambering over the dry stone walls. A 5 mile drive for the Derby Arms.

Gisburn Forest – Forest Of Bowland

Gisburn Forest is the largest wooded area in Lancashire offering views over the Bowland Fells and Stocks Reservoir. The walking and cycling trails go into heart of the forest, along historic trackways and former railway lines. Horse riding and orienteering is also accommodated. The wildlife hides on the Birch Hills Walk provide the chance to see birds of prey. An 18 mile drive from the Derby Arms.

Brock Bottom

Located on the western edge of the Forest of Bowland, Brock Bottom is a local beauty spot along a shallow river, perfect for paddling children or dogs. Following the paths leads to ruins of a spinning cotton mill that was built around 1790. Following the river downstream, which meanders to the west, heads towards Lancaster Canal or upstream takes in Boggy Wood and Snape Rake Lane. A 9 mile drive from The Derby Arms.

Ribble Steam Railway

Hidden away in the heart of Preston’s old industrial docklands, the volunteer-run steam railway offers a memorable look into Lancashire’s world famous industrial heritage. The three-mile return trip takes visitors along the River Ribble to view unique views of Preston. Trains run on Saturdays and Sundays between May and September.

BOWLAND WILD BOAR PARK

Set in 65 acres in the heart of the Forest of Bowland, the Wild Boar Park offers a fun day out for the entire family. You can enjoy a picnic on the grounds or take a walk around the park’s footpaths to view the resident wild boars, llamas, wallabies, red squirrels, pet lambs and other animals.
